Research - Teenagers (Secondary Research)

Documentary Research – We’re teenagers but we are not…
Facts

Ø A phrase “Teenager” was first introduced around the year of 1944 http://www.theguardian.com/books/2007/apr/15/society

Ø A teenager, or teen, is a young person whose age falls within the range from 13–19. https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teenager

Ø There is a greater mix of identity – e.g: goth, punk, black, white, indi, tomboy, girly- girls.

Quotes

Ø But the modern notion of the teen years as a recognized, quantifiable life stage, complete with its own fashions, behavior, vernacular and arcane rituals, simply did not exist until the post-Depression era. – The Times

Ø Teenagers nowadays are very rude. They do not respect people of older age. You just cannot tell them something without hearing rude words in return. They want us to respect their opinion but they do not express something valuable and do not do anything for what they can be respected.

Ø Teenagers listen to crazy music and they listen to it very loud. They do not listen to serious classical music at all.

Ø Teenagers less likely to use alcohol and drugs, but self-harm and eating disorders are on the rise. – The Independent

My opinion on teenagers and how they are represented by the older generation is that they are judged by the bad decisions of some teenagers and therefore they believe that all teens are the same when in fact it is completely different to what they think.
